Counter Strike Basic Strategies

1. Know your weapons

Know your weapons strength, weaknesses, and most of all how much ammo is in it.You should always be using the right weapon for the right scenario.

  •  For example you wouldn’t want to go into close quarters combat with a sniper rifle. So, you should switch to your pistols. Vice versa once you made it out of a close quarter’s area and your out in a wide open space switch back to your sniper rifle.

  • Also make sure your backup weapons are loaded and they are binded in case you need to quickly switch back to them.

Never Spray and Pray’ (Accuracy will keep you alive)

  • One of the most common mistakes that newbie’s will make is holding down the fire button. Holding down the fire button with automatic weapons will greatly reduce the player’s accuracy. In fact if they hold down the button too long they will hit anything but their target. Usually firing one to three rounds at a time is best.

2. Stay with your teammates

Never try to go off and play Rambo. Stay with friends and use team work to take out the enemy and stay alive. Think of this many real world tactics and strategies use team work.

  • For example house clearing. Wouldn’t it be easier to have three players with you before you go through a door way while one teammate covers your back another watches the overhead area. And another throws a flash bang into the room. You are unlikely to be shot from behind, the enemy can’t rush out and kill you, and finally you never have to let your guard down not having a weapon ready since you are throwing a flash bang.

  • You might not get great support like this scenario in a pub server. You can still get one or two teammates to help you though. You will have to have your mic and good voice commands you are likely to coerce team members to cover your back and throw in a flash bang for you.

3. Use your Radar

Radar is perhaps the most blown off or unused tool in Counter Strike.
Radar is essential and there is no excuse for opening up on your teammates and friendly fire deaths.
Radar- Is the green circle icon on your screen that helps you know your location and your surroundings

Here are five important icons to remember

-A red dot represents the VIP (Only seen by CT’s on as_maps/bomb carrier is only seen by the T’s on de_maps
-A T shape represents a teammate a level above you.
-An upside down T shape represents a Team member a level below you.
-A yellow square represents a Teammate using the Radio

4. Use communication

  • IF you are going to excel in clan matches you’re going to have to use team strategies. To use any strategies or tactics you will need to communicate. So, you should bind essential radio commands that will help you communicate with your teammates. You can also get a decent mic and talk to your teammates. Just make sure all talk is not on obviously. Some players will even bind aliases to give text messages.

5. Use Stealth

Stealth is extremely important. Remember noise gives you away! Walking over grates, rooftops is especially loud, and don’t forget climbing ladders.

Use a M4 or usp with a silencer
Use a silenced weapon so you won’t give away your location. If you are a T this is even better; because the CT’s will not expect a sneaky T with a silenced M4a that he has acquired. Also it’s optimal to take out the enemy and not give away your exact location to the enemies.

Step Silent -

  • Use the side of walls to walk along to slow your speed slightly and silence your steps. Even better you can crouch and use the walk key ( Shift ) to slow and silence your steps.

Going up and down ladders

  • You can actually crouch while going down a ladder; and guess what you will make no noise at all. Going up or down a ladder you should walk into the wall while on the ladder. Make sure you only to move your mouse a tiny bit to ensure you go up or down. This way you can stay silent.

  • You can use stealth and still be offensive. You should practice stalking enemies by using your radar, listen for footsteps, all while keeping quiet and hidden yourself. Coming up on an unaware enemy at close range is an easy kill.

Stay in inconspicuous low lighted areas of the map. There is nothing wrong with hiding if you are low on health. Try this and you will be surprised at the number of players that will fly right by you.

6. Know your location and surroundings

  • Know where you are, your teammates, and where enemies are likely to be. You should always take a quick check to how many players are still alive too. Plus if you see that a member on your team just died and you know he was in a location ahead of you. You know that the enemy is in that location now.

  • Keeping the enemy guessing where you are at is crucial. Keep quiet and be prepared. If the enemy knows your location after a firefight you should move out of that area. If you have been spotted or it is too late keep your self moving in a way that you are unlikely to be hit by the enemy. Use quick strafing techniques while you take shots at the enemy. Popular techniques to make your self a hard target include the following.

  • Strafe and zigzag towards your enemy to take him out. Do it quickly so other teammates do not come to assist him or get to your location in time to help him.

  • Jump up and down to avoid being shot in the head. Players are used to changing their aim more horizontally than a drastic vertical change. Note: you can only do this now and then for a short time when you cannot avoid taking fire from the enemy. This is great if you have an AWP because jumping will not affect your aim.

  • Lure the enemy into an ambush. Run towards your teammates and get in position to take out the enemy that is chasing after you. This is great if you have low health and ammo.

  • Shoot then ambush: fire a few shots in the enemies’ general direction run back and take cover. While the enemy is searching for you take him out with a few shots. The great thing about this technique is the enemy is usually out in the open, they don’t know where you are, and you know exactly where they are at. Plus after you kill them they will feel a little stupid.

Out of game help

1. Setup your controls to optimize your game play
    See the control settings article

2. Get the best hardware and tweak your settings

3. Practice, Practice, Practice

  • There is no substitute for practice. Players that get more out of practice our ones that learn techniques then slowly apply them in real live game play. Also players that succeed are ones that keep an open mind (even if they are very experienced) and learn from strategies and as well as mistakes.

I hope this information is helpful for you.have a fun

Thanxx,

1. Setup
2. Entering Commands
3. Weapon Bind Names
4. Radio Bind Names
5. Key Bind Names
6. Important Notes
7. Sample Autoexec

 Setup

First, we'll need to make an autoexec file for your binds to go in...

- Open up the:

C:\Valve\Steam\Steamapps\youremail\counter-strike source\cstrike\cfg

folder.

- Right-Click anywhere in the folder, from the pop-up list go to New >>> Text
Document.

Use Notepad for creating / editing your configs to prevent any possible
problems

- Once you open up the new text file, go to File >>> Save As...

- For the File name: "autoexec.cfg"

- For the Save as type: "All Files (*.*)"

- For the Encoding: ANSI

- Once it's saved it will create a NEW document called an autoexec.cfg, this is
where you will enter in your commands.

Entering Commands

- Now, here's how the buy scripting works in Source. First type which key that
you want to bind (for this example we will use f1):

bind f1

- Now, decide which weapon you would like f1 to buy, we'll use the AK-47:

bind f1 "buy ak47"

- And that's it...of course there's more things you can add such as buying
Primary Ammo, Kevlar, Grenades, etc. So we'll do one so that we buy an
AK-47, Primary Ammo, Kevlar, and a HE grenade:

bind f1 "buy ak47; buy primammo; buy vest; buy hegrenade"

- You can also combine 2 different team specific weapons into the same binds.
Like the AK-47 and M4A1:

bind f1 "buy ak47; buy m4a1; buy primammo; buy vest; buy hegrenade"

- The following formats can be used and your scripts will still function
properly:

bind f1 "buy ak47; buy primammo; buy vest; buy hegrenade"
bind "f1" "buy ak47; buy primammo; buy vest; buy hegrenade"
bind F1 "buy ak47; buy primammo; buy vest; buy hegrenade"
bind f1 "buy AK47; buy PRIMAMMO; buy VEST; buy HEGRENADE"
bind f1 "buy ak47;buy primammo;buy vest;buy hegrenade"

- You can also add text headers in your autoexec in order to keep different
types of binds separated and labeled. Just add "//" to the beginning to make
sure that the game doesn't try to read it as a command. The following is an
example:

//Weapon Binds
bind f1 "buy ak47; buy m4a1; buy primammo; buy vest; buy hegrenade"
bind f2 "buy sg552; buy aug; buy primammo; buy vest; buy hegrenade"

//Game Configs
cl_showfps 1
cl_smooth 0

 Important Notes

- Buy scripting in source is a lot more lenient when it comes to format. You
can use capital letters for the weapon names and keys, also you can remove
the spaces between different items (buy vest;buy primammo) and your script
will still work properly. Although mistakes can still happen...

- If your scripts don't seem to be working, first make sure that you've setup
your autoexec properly, then check spelling, and then format. Most errors
are caused by misspelling.

- If you don't have enough money to buy all the items, the game will buy in the
order that you have the weapons/equipment listed in your script.

- If you just want to buy single clips of ammo use either buyammo1 for primary
ammo, or buyammo2 for secondary ammo, very useful for it you just want to buy
one or two magazines of AWP ammo or pistol ammo.

- You can bind a key to use a certain weapon if you would like, which is very
helpful with grenades, the following is an example:

bind mouse4 "use weapon_hegrenade"

 Sample Autoexec

The following is an example of an autoexec that has buy scripts, toggle scripts
and game configs in it so you can see an example of how it all looks when used
together.

counter strike low end computer frames per second (fps) guide

This tutorial is intended for people with low end machines, which can be qualified as machines with some type of 1.7 gigahertz processor or below, an agp slot - mostly towards 4x, or an nVidia 5900 series or below card or an ATI 9600 series or below (although you may also want to copy and paste the following link for the VALVe hardware assesment service)

  • It is separated into six sections:
  1. Graphic Card Drivers
  2. Command Line Settings
  3. Automatically Executed Configuration
  4. Setting Priorities
  5. In game settings.
  6. Other Helpful links

It is intended to get the maximum playability for those who can not afford to upgrade; it is not going to make a pretty game with all the bells and whistles, rather, it will turn them ALL OFF. Your game, when done, will now graphically resemble CS 1.6, but hopefully will be more playable in Source. This tutorial is not intended for users who already have a decent machine and just want to "squeeze out a few more fps", rather, it's for players who have fps problems. I hope it helps. This tutorial can easily be modified to work on all Source games, not just CS: S. This tutorial is not the end all be all of tutorials, it is only here for help. If you find it helpful, great, if you find something in it that does not work for you, feel free to let me know what doesn't seem to work and why in this thread. Computers are very different from one another, there is no generic single solution for everyone. Nothing is 100% and neither is this tutorial. Feel free to add your own tweaks or recommendations to this thread.

  • Graphic Card Drivers

Older cards require older drivers. Just because a new driver was released doesn't mean you should install it.

( NOTE : BE SURE TO HAVE DirectX 9.0c INSTALLED. NOT SURE WHAT VERSION YOU HAVE? CLICK START-> RUN-> TYPE IN DXDIAG. THIS WILL TELL YOU RIGHT AWAY )

They won't help geForce F/X or ati 9600 or below series owners, and may in fact hinder you. I think nVidia put it best, on this one. Guru3d has a great database of graphics drivers for everything, and an awesome forum to help you identify which drivers you need(although for older nVidia users I recommend the 79.11 drivers). Check them out at: http://www.guru3d.com

But, be sure to use the software removal tools for any drivers. There are some on Guru of 3D although I've also heard good things about Driver Cleaner, too. When you've downloaded and installed the driver removal tool of your choice, and after you've downloaded but before you've installed the new driver, be sure to:

  1. open Control Panel - Add/remove Software-  find your card's drivers -  remove.
  2. Reboot in Safe Mode - tap the f8 key while rebooting to get this option
  3. Run the driver removal tool of your choice
  4. Reboot normally
  5. Install your new driver

  • Command Line Settings

Steam Way  ( THESE ARE EASY TO UNDO )

    First, start steam
    1. Then, right click on the Steam icon in the lower right hand corner .
    2. Select Games .
    3. Right click on Counter Strike .
    4. Click Properties
    5. Click Set Launch Options .
    6. enter in the following commands, the only spaces being between the commands as well as the command values .

Set the amount of ram used by Steam*. it is recommended to use 1/2 your available ram - so for the following:

    code:

Right click and copy and paste the code.

    1. Ram - Heapsize
    2. 2 gigs - 1048576
    3. 1 gig - 524288
    4. 512 megs - 262144
    5. 256 megs - 131072
    6. 128 megs - 65536 (you should consider buying more ram)

NOTE:VALVe has said that this doesn't control
the same resources it did in Half-Life. For more
    information read this.

Specify the DirectX level used by the game.**

Right click and copy and paste the code.

Right click and copy and paste the code.
    • DxLevel - Number
    • 9.0c - 90 (really unnecessary if you are already fine)
    • 8.1 - 81
    • 8.0 - 80
    • 7.0 - 70 (recommended for very low-end, although leagues consider this a cheat, for which I can understand.)
**Also, once set, you should remove this command from the launch options before
the next time you play. That way, if you've made any video setting changes
from the game engine after this, it will save and not reset itself each time.
    • Automatically Executed Configuration

Copy the following code (Thanks, Casey) and paste it into windows notepad. Name it autoexec.cfg and save it in your Steam directory - in one of two places (I have been made aware of two different directory structures - I believe it depends on how old your Steam installation is - if you don't have one path you most likely have the other, unless you made a custom path)
    c:\Program Files\Steam\ . . .counter-strike source\hl2\cfg\
    or
    c:\Program Files\Steam\ . . .counter-strike source\cstrike\cfg\
    directory.

**Note**Both the r_drawdetailprops and the r_propsmaxdist are considered cheats in most leagues, so do not include these if you play in CAL, TPG, BFE, or ViE **

Here are the commands, with a brief explanation (to activate or de-activate certain lines, simply comment or un-comment them by adding or removing "//" in front of the actual command. when the two forward slashes are there, like "//mat_dxlevel 60" that means it's not going to be read by the computer.

Right click and copy and paste the code.

neat little trick for learing spray patterns in counter strike source

this neat little trick that not many people know about. will help you learn the spray /recoil patterns of the guns /weapons in counter strike source.

make your own server then type these console commands into console

    sv_cheats 1

    sv_showimpacts 1

now when you shoot something in counter strike a red square will appear for 5 or 6 seconds showing you where you hit
this is great for practicing how to control your spray from the ak 47
or m4 a1 i use it allot for practice to see where i am hitting on the other side of doors and walls note: this is only for practice in your own server as it will not work in public servers where sv_cheats is not enabled but none the less it is a great way to learn spray patterns

grenade throwing practice strategy's for counter strike source.

i am not going to go into great detail on any one counter strike map
but what i am going to do is show you some tips and console commands if used properly
can in time make you better at throwing grenades in counter strike source.

"first mistake i see people doing most of the time is dying with 2 or 3 undetonated
grenades they just run out get killed without throwing one damn grenade"

first start up counter strike source then make your own server.
now open the console and type in these console commands

sv_cheats 1 'don't worry this isn't a cheat we just need it so we can spawn grenades'

    bind , "give weapon_smokegrenade"

    bind . "give weapon_hegrenade"

    bind / "give weapon_flashbang"

    bind \ "noclip"

now when you press the "," key you will get a smoke grenade

and when you press the "." key you will get a he grenade

also when you press the "/" key you will get a flash grenade

and last but not least when you press the "\" key gravity will be turned off aloowing you to go anywhere on the map you like making it really easy to find good grenade bounce spots hit it again to go back to normal

i know what you are thinking this sounds like a lot of trouble but believe after a few days of throwing a thousand or so grenades you will learn a lot of spots to throw them you never thought possible

tips to remember are that just because you can't see someone on the other side of a wall doesn't mean you can't flash or grenade them by bouncing it off a wall or throwing it over a wall that you thought wasn't possible.

heres something else to remember when you throw a grenade you can back up at the same time taking some of the forward speed off the grenade making it hover in mid air thus detonating in your enemy's face

so go in your server and try to find all kinds of new bounce spots and throw over buildings and get creative who knows you may find a new spot to throw or bounce a grenade that nobody ever knew of

effective clan / team communication in scrims

i get this question a lot now days

"my team can't communicate worth tits on a boar hog. we always make wrong calls on the amount of enemy's we see. and we always end up going to the wrong bomb site and we over rotate almost always resulting in us losing the round because
we didn't defuse the bomb in time."

First off you should show your team the "proper" way to make calls. In my opinion the best way to make calls is to be as specific as possible where possible. well use the map de_dust2 for an example, if I hear a rush on cat I'll immediately count in my head how many I hear. If I know it is more than two people I hear rushing, I will say "at least three rushing cat." If four guys come around the corner I would say "four guys." If one or more of those guys has a deagle I'll say "some have deagles." If I'm on vent and I'm able to freely talk after I'm dead (don't try to do this at most LANs), I'll try to call the direction the players are running accurately. Like, "three top A one going back cat." If I'm not sure, just add "three top A, I THINK one going back cat." If I'm rotating over to top A from long to take the site back on dust2 if I see anyone by greenboxes I'll immediately call "at least one green boxes," or "one green boxes." The more accurate you can be the better.

If I get killed in an area where I'm alone, after I die I'll immediately call what he is doing "might be running back," or "he's walking up." And then I'll call "just one so far" if it was only one guy.

Getting people to make the proper calls is a big part of communication. Make sure everyone is calling in the best way possible. Whenever you can, try not to say "some B," for example. Try to be specific, because calls like "some B" can lead to premature rotation, where as a call like "at least two B, one spamming" is a lot more helpful.

I think the best thing you can do to get people talking more, is show them an effective way to call. You can also take it a step further, and make it so everyone can only use in-game mic chat which means they have to become adept at making a call while or before they initiate the fight, or run the risk of not helping the team at all

making your awp shots hit or register better

if there is one thing i get tired of hearing in a scrim or scrimmage it's this.

"omg wtf there is no reg or registration in this server my crosshair was rite on his head."

well your crosshair may have indeed been on the enemy's head.
but as far as the game code is concerned you may have missed by a mile
so what i am going to do is show you how to make you awp shot's register or reg better
these tips well also help with all the other weapons in counter strike source

type these cvar commands in console inside counter strike source to enable the console hit the "~" also know as the Tilda key. if after pressing the "~" key nothing happens you will have to check the enable developer console setting in keyboard/advanced settings in counter strike source.

    cl_interp 0

    cl_interpolate 0

    cl_lagcomp_errorcheck 1

    cl_cmdrate 100

    cl_updaterate 100

    cl_rate 20000

    cl_smooth 0

    rate 25000

    zoom_sensitivity_ratio 0.76

after you enter all of those cvars/console commands

close counter strike source then restart steam

now that we have taken care of that problem let's focus on you yes you
it is extremely important to remember that when you play
not to grip your mouse to tightly with your hand. because when you do that your
muscle's have tendency to jerk. usually resulting in you missing the kill so keep that in mind while you play. another this to remember is to make sure you stop walking before you shoot this sounds very obvious but this little trick is what separates the pub stars from the pro players. you can practice this by making your own counter strike source server and practice running and stopping about 50 times a day until you get the timing down pat.

ok lets talk about your gaming gear
i know that grime encrusted ball mouse is broke in but you won't be getting on any
cal i or cevo p team playing with that shit so here is a list of good gaming mouse's

the Razer Copperhead™ Gaming Mouse sells for about 55 to 60 bucks

the Logitech G5 Laser 2000 dpi Mouse my favorite sells for about 55 to 60 bucks as well

well thats all for now if you need more cvars / console commands and definitions of said commands for counter strike source check my other post i put a complete list of them there or just check this link

    AWP tips for de_dust2

    Awp

The AWP is a weapon that decides the match. You want to use everything about the AWP to your advantage, whenever possible. For example, it's pricetag. If you know you have no chance of winning the round, but a dead teammate's AWP is nearby, you can pick that up and run away, and give it to your teammate the next round. By doing this you have saved money in that A, you didn't die, giving up $1000 of armor, a $2500 or $3100 gun, plus grenades and possibly a purchased sidearm. And B, the AWP costs $4750. If you can give your teammate the AWP, he can buy you a rifle, and you just saved 2 or 3k. Another example is the fact that because of your double zoom, you can pick up on key details that your teammates may not. Ie, if you double scope and the enemy is pistol rushing somewhere (let's say long A on dust2), and your teammates are on A platform, pretty far away, they can just see the enemy with pistols. If you come up from CT spawn and double zoom, you can see if there are weapons on the enemies backs, indicating a surprise buy. (A good place to see this for yourself is to load up an AWP map, set bots to knives, then look at their back across the map with each level of zoom.)

    Gap Shots

Some good positions as T to make the crucial shot that makes the oppositions B side weak (unless they rotate a player there, and open themselves at A).

    1.  If you expect a CT to cross by running, aim here (the second line on the left double door, as shown in the picture).
This sorta shots take some practice, so go on a public server, and practice picking off people a split second after they cross the gap.

    2.  If you expect a CT to cross by jumping, aim here . Basically, the idea is to quickly shoot just as you see him jump in the little "opening" at the top of the doors. You could atleast deal some damage to him, making B vulnerable.

    Picking as a T
This is in my opinion, the easier side of Dust2 to awp from. These are some basic positions to pick a CT awper from.

    1.  This is probably the easiest pick to make. . A decent CT awper will probably prefire that spot, so you might wanna watch out.

    2.  Use this pick, if your spawn is closer to B then to A. Also risky, but a required risk to take, because you want to make sure how many CT's cross to B, and if there is an awp watching short A (you don't wanna find yourself in a situation where CT's stacked A and you thought they have 2 on B).

    3.  The last but not least, is the lower spawn pick. Probably my favorite, but also the toughest one. Only do this one if you have a good spawn (close to the boxes in spawn). With some decent gap shooting skills, you just might make a pick there.

    Picking as CT

Picking as CT is a tad bit harder, as the T's are higher than you, have a clearer shot (you have the double doors in front of you, but those are spam able so if the luck factor is high enough, you might bang one trough the doors), and almost always have the time advantage. If your team is overall a little bit worse than the other team, you'd be better off not trying to pick middle, and just watching short a.

The 3 basic picking positions are really commonly used.

The first 2 are risky, but again, a required risk to take. The 3rd is a brilliant position to pick off any T's pushing catwalk (aka short A).

    Spamming Mini Tutorial

This is in continuation of my effort to cast away some of my boredom and to be of some help to the newer members of this community. So without further adieu,Here's My Spamming mini tutorial.:

    1. What is Spamming? Spamming is the art of shooting through obstacles(eg crates, walls) to hit opponents.

    2. What all guns can spam? All rifles (i.e b 4) weapons can shoot through obstacles. Also, the Desert Eagle/Nighthawk pistol and the M249 Paramachine gun can spam as well.

    3. Do spam shots offer as much damage as normal shots? No spam shots donot damage as much as normal shots, but yes it is possible to score headshots through obstacles.

    4. When should I spam?As a CT, if your'e in a comfortable hiding spot and if you can hear your opponents rushing(i.e more than one enemy Terrorist coming your way), it's always a good idea to spam.I'll elaborate this with an example,Suppose your taking bombsite B in de_inferno, and you hear T's rushing from balcony/carpet area, you should probably spam the balcony wall, you will definitely score some hits.Of course all this depends upon how developed your sound sense is and if your oppenents dont walk in the carpet area.

    5. Some more tips?Yeah, dont empty your cartridge while spamming, you'll need bullets when they come out haha, this was pretty obvious. If you've got an M4, silence it, that way you can hear thuds of your bullets contacting your opponents, so that you know exactly where to spam. The sniper is an awesome spam weapon, but AWP spamming anywhere outside( cs_untitled) is pretty tough, since you have such a small margin for error.

6.Some maps where spamming is important?De_nuke is a huge wall spamming map, I cant explain it all, if someone wants a more detailed explaination, ask me.That's it my mini tutorial is over.

    Awp versus Scout

which do u guyz think is better ,the magnum or the scout ? well on hearin this question i know that the immmediate answer will be "magnum" but sumhow i feel that scout is better.before me makin myself clear about this lets discuss about the process and cons of both the guns.

    (AWP magnam)

    (Scout)

THE AWP MAGNUM                                  VS                               SCHIMIDT SCOUT

    Advantage of the MAGNUM:

    (1) one shot one kill....the mag will kill an object with just a single shot irrespective of whether it is a headshot or not and irrespetive of whether it is a dinosaur or a human who is the victim.

    Advantages of the SCOUT:

    (1) The cost.the magnum is bloody hell expensive and unless and other wise you have the magnum with you fer atleast 3 rounds at a stretch with out dying and getting atleast 2 frags a round will u be able to earn becouse your money.

    (2) The weight...the scout isnt as heavy as the mag...which means that the person wid a mag will alwayz be able to run faster than one wid a mag...i know that it is possible to run wid a knife but supposed u r suddenly put under combat action then u will hv to suffer a lot.

(3)The sound...The mag is bloody hell loud like a buffalo thumping down in the middle of wall st. NY...so this means that when u r camping in a big map n u miss a shot with a mag u will easily b noticed which will not happen in the place of the mag.

(4)A deadly tool to loose...be carefull when u choose to buy a mag n supposing u get killer and the opponent picks it up then it will be a very great danger fer u in the next round....n in the case of the scout...not much of them will like to use it n thus will be ignored.

Thus all i wud like to say is that i personally feel that the scout is anytime better than the mag but wudnt resist droppin my scout fer a mag lying on the ground...lol...so long gamers...i know this wud hv a lot of critics n i wud like to hear them out...
